Harry Glickman (born in 1924, 93 years old) is "father"
of professional sports in Oregon.
A journalist, promoter, and sports executive,
before helping found the NBA Portland Trail Blazers in 1970, he organized the
Portland Buckaroos of the professional Western Hockey League. During its life,
1960-1974, the team won nine league championships and four playoff titles.
A column about Glickman in the Sept 19. 2017,
Portland Tribune …
…quotes him saying, “There have been only two dynasties in
Oregon in my time — the Buckaroos and Linfield football. There are others on
the cusp — Oregon State baseball, Oregon track and University of Portland
soccer."
There’s a Linfield connection to the Buckroos. Hal Laycoe
was coach of the “Bucks.” During that time (1960-1969), his son, Bob “Heavy
Duty” Laycoe was a Linfield football all-Northwest Conference tackle and lettered
in the 1965, 1966 and 1967 seasons.
