Tim Smith, Linfield football player






Former Linfield football player Tim Smith earned a bachelor of arts degree from Linfield in 1970.

He attended Linfield after graduating from Serra Catholic High School in Salem, Ore.

He lettered playing Linfield Wildcat football in the 1967 (Paul Durham, coach), 1968 and 1969 (Ad Rutschman, coach) seasons.

The 1978 Linfield Alumni Directory showed him living in Las Vegas, Nev., and working for the State of Nevada Adult Parole and Probation. A newspaper story in 1981 shows him living in Carson City, Nev.

Born Sept. 26, 1946, he died at age 34 on February 7, 1981.


  • See above, wearing uniform #51, he’s listed as a 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds guard in the 1969 Linfield football pressbook which includes him in this group photo of returning lettermen. However, Fanbase says he was an outside linebacker and weighed 185.

  • See below, action photo from 1970 Linfield Oak Leaves yearbook with caption, “Shawn Mosely (#25) and Tim Smith (#51) subdue Whitman’s halfback.” Number 60 is Bob Sullivan. Linfield won the game, 17-6. It was played Oct. 25, 1969, on Maxwell Field.
