Linfielder Bruce Crossfield coaches volleyball at Pomeroy High



Bruce Crossfield, who earned a Linfield Master of Education degree in 1979, is in his second season (2010) as head volleyball coach at Pomeroy High School in Pomeroy (Garfield County), Wash.

Before taking over the program, he was the Pirates’ assistant volleyball coach. Before that, he served as PHS head boys’ basketball coach.

He teaches physical education and social studies at PHS (grades 7-12/about 180 students), home of the Pirates.

Crossfield came to Pomeroy after coaching boys’ basketball and teaching (1986-1991) at Lapwai (Idaho) High School. His Lapwai Wildcat teams won three consecutive Idaho state Class A-3 championships and had 81 straight victories, a new state record.

Hs was named 1988 “North Idaho Coach of the Year” by the Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame.

Crossfield plays (played?) on a Spokane Hoopfest – an annual summer 3-on-3 basketall tournament in Spokane -- team called “Masters in Disguise.” The team has/had an average height of 74 inches and an average age of 45.25 years.

Team members include 6-foot-3 footers Crossfield of Pomeroy; Andrew Herres of Puyallup, Wash.; and Keith McMasters of Dayton, Wash; and 5-foot-11 Steve Bonzer of Eatonville, Wash.

According to the McMinnville News-Register, in December 1980, “Grizzly Bear Pizza defeated Leonard's Construction 59-51 in the McMinnville Parks and Recreation Department-sponsored city basketball program. Dallas Simon paced Grizzly Bear Pizza with 18 points. Bruce Crossfield added 14 for the winning club. Greg Leonard was the leading scorer for Leonard's Construction with 23 points.”
