1969: Linfield-Portland State play in first Oregon college football game on artificial turf

“LINFIELD’S ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT AGAIN APPEARS headed for a first. Next fall, September 20 to be exact, the Wildcats open the football season at Portland State University in Civic Stadium, therefore becoming a participant in the first college football game played in Oregon on artificial turf. Portland is the first city in the world to have the fake turf in an outdoor baseball-football combination situation.”
