Bob has had a long time association with Oregon high school all-star football game held each summer in Portland.

Originally sponsored for 50 years by the Shriners/Shrine, for the past 20 years it’s been the Les Schwab Bowl. For most of its existence the game has been held in Portland.

As a 10-year-old, Bob remembers “watching the City team work out for the first Shriners All-Star football game. Back in the day, for two weeks many players  were featured by both Portland daily papers (Oregonian, Oregon Journal) promoting August game. It’s always been a special game. From that time forward, it seemed the goal of many (high school football players) to be selected” to play in the game.

Tom Walsh says, "As a member of the 1947 City Shrine All-Star team, I have clear memories of Bob attending all our practices, handling the water jugs superbly, and inspiring us to victory over the also-rans from around the State."
