Linfield campus’ BRUMBACK STREET — named for A. M. (Arthur Marion) Brumback, McMinnville College 1903-1905 president — was changed in 2021.
Reason for Linfield making the change is detailed in this story …

With that as precedent, EVERSON STREET, named for William Graham Everson, Linfield College 1939-1943 president, should be changed, too.
Why?

Story in July 8, 2021, Smoke Signals newspaper of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde
After learning that a private two-block street on its campus was named after a former science professor who had stolen Native American burial artifacts, Linfield University chose to right a wrong.
In November 2020, the Board of Trustees recommended removing the name of A.M. Brumback from the campus street and creating a commission to discuss replacement names.
(Note: The story does not mention that in his career at Linfield U (then McMinnville College) Brumback was president, 1903-1903.)

Some sources
say the Oregon Enemy Alien Hearing Board led during World War II by
Linfield College President William G. Everson played a:
- “role in the unjust incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II, despite a lack of evidence against them.”
- “significant and often adversarial role in the incarceration of Japanese Americans and other ‘enemy aliens’ during WWII, rather than being a mere formality.”
