LINFIELD CONNECTION OF MARK FEW, HEAD MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH OF GONZAGA UNIVERSITY

Has any Linfield grad ever been head coach of an NCAA DI men's basketball team ranked #1. Apparently not. But ask the same about a Linfield alum. The answer is yes. Who? Gonzaga University's Mark Few.

(Gonzaga is located in Spokane, Washington.)(

According to Few's bio, posted at Wikipedia, he was born in Creswell, Oregon, the son of a Presbyterian pastor, and was a star point guard at Creswell, Lane County, Oregon, High School, graduating in 1981. He originally attended Linfield College in McMinnville, hoping to play basketball and baseball for the Linfield Wildcats, but he was troubled by the aftereffects of a dislocated shoulder he suffered while playing football as a senior at Creswell.

In a Facebook post on 4/2/2021, Linfielder Tom Rohlffs said he believes Mark Few "played one year of JV baseball at Linfield."

After an academic year at Linfield, Few transferred from Linfield to the University of Oregon in Eugene. He hoped to play baseball for the UO, there, but the Ducks had dropped their varsity baseball program by the time he arrived in Eugene. He graduated from Oregon with a B.S. in physical education in 1987."

As this is written (4/2/2021) Few’s unbeaten for the season Gonzaga Bulldogs (also known as the “Zags”) are in the 2021 NCAADI men’s national basketball tournament “Final Four” in Indianapolis. His team plays UCLA on Saturday, April 3, 2021. If it wins that game, Gonzaga will play winner of the Baylor vs. Houston game on Monday, April 4, 2021, for the national title.
