LINFIELD WILDCATS of OREGON beat LEWIS FLYERS of Illinois
for 1966 NAIA World Series title
On Friday night, June 10,
1966, Linfield College Wildcats (McMinnville, Oregon), coached by Roy Helser,
beat Lewis University Flyers (Romeoville, Illinois) 15-4 to win the NAIA World
Series. The game was played at Phil Welch Stadium in St. Joseph, Missouri. It
was Linfield's first national team championship.
(Note: A Missouri newspaper
covering the 1966 NAIA national baseball plays identified Lewis U as being from
Lockport. However, the university is apparently in Romeoville, about five miles
from Lockport. Romeoville is about 32 miles from Chicago.)
