Jan. 8, 2008, is the day the
250-year-old or so "Oak Oak" fell to its death of the Linfield campus
in McMinnville.
For many McMinnville College/Linfield
College students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends it was a historic
presence. Always there. Always standing tall. However, there's a boat load of
Linfielders who don't know the Old Oak or their knowledge of it is minimal.
Why not celebrate its impact
on Linfield each January 8?
The college's alma mater,
“We’ll Be Loyal,” includes the lyrics, "The Old Oak gives us
courage..."
These days the alma mater
has revised lyrics, "the old oaks give us courage..."
With the current financial
crisis of Linfield, courage is something needed for the college to continue to
exist.
Let's celebrate the Old Oak
each January 8.
It would not be a courageous
thing to do.
But, it would be the right
thing to do.

With her backing never yield
